Eklavya Model Residential School

Rajasthan government is working on all the areas for the complete development of the state. It is also focused on proving good education to the underprivileged. To enhance the level of education in Rajasthan, Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is soon going to open in its capital city i.e. Jaipur. Know more.

The school would be built at Mathasula (Jamvaramgarh) in Jaipur. For its construction, Tribal Regional Development Department sanctioned ₹ 1341.91 lakhs. For the construction, the approval had been given by Commissioner of Tribal Regional Development Department, Udaipur. Before this, the school was given Administrative approval.

This time, the approval is made on the basis of the detailed provision of work and the acceptance of the work done by the second Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, Division II, Jaipur.

Existing Model Public Residential schools in Rajasthan

In the scheduled area, Model Public Residential Schools are being operated- one is in Dhikli, Udaipur (Girls) and other is in Surpur District Dungarpur (Boys). The total capacity of both schools is 700 students. 672 students have been admitted in education session 2017-18.

Central Government plans for expansion of Model Public Residential schools

This is quite old scheme for India named after ace archer Eklavya. In budget 2018, government announced its expansion. It is for improving level of education in the country. Under this, every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons, would have an Ekalavya Model Residential School by year 2022, said FM Arun Jaitley.

Know details of Ekalavya Model Residential School

In India, Ekalavya Model Residential School (EMRS) is started by the Tribal Ministry, Government of India. Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) are set up in the States/UTs with grants under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India.

The objective is to provide quality middle and high level education to Scheduled Tribes (ST) students in remote areas. It also aims at enabling them to access the best opportunities in education at par with the non ST population. Under this, the capital cost is ₹ 12 crore which can go up to ₹ 16 crore in hilly areas, deserts and islands. And, the additional cost is borne by state governments.
