Gujjar Quota to increase to 26% in next Assembly Session

Raje-led government ensures equality to one and all, be it a class or a caste of society. According to a minister, the Rajasthan assembly will table a new bill to give 5% reservation to Gujjars across government job and educational institutes.

Community and ministers informed media about the new bill which will increase the Gujjar community members across educational and employment landscapes.

The cabinet sub-committee held a meeting with the Gujjar community and decided to increase the OBC quota to 26%. Currently, the OBC quota is 21%. If information is to be believed, the new 26% quota will constitute 5% special backward classes such as Gujjar, Raika, Gadariya, Gadiya-Luhar and Banjara.

The assembly session which is anticipated to commence from October 23 will witness the final announcement of the OBC quota increase.

The Gujjar leaders had also agreed that if any statutory or social issue arises because of the move then the responsibility will be of the community and will co-operate with the government.

The Rajasthan government tried to increase quota of Gujjars and four other communities by 5%, however it could not be passed due to various roadblocks by the Rajasthan high court on account of Court’s guidelines of adhering to 50% limit on quota.

However, efforts to pass the bill are in full swing. Dev Narayan Board, Social Justice and Empowerment Department Minister Arun Chaturvedi said, “In the coming assembly session the bill be brought and the government will make efforts to get the bill pass.”

“OBC commission report was received,” informed Gujjar leader Himmat Singh. It is also known that the reservation bill is ready and will be introduced in the upcoming assembly election.

The government is mulling the idea of including scholarships, residential schools and Gurukul in the OBC quota, Chaturvedi informed in the context of increase in OBC quota.

The cabinet sub-committee meeting was attended by various prominent Gujjar leaders like Kirori Singh Bainsla and Himmat Gujjar on Monday.
