Devendra Bhushan Gupta has been announced as the chief secretary of Rajasthan.
DB Gupta will also be holding the post of the chairman, Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd, Udaipur, until any further direction is given in that regard.
DB Gupta: A glimpse into the Past
He was earlier positioned as the additional chief secretary (finance, excise and taxation). He has handled many different positions like commissioner, JDA; principal secretary, UDH, additional chief secretary of agriculture, PWD, energy, infrastructure, etc.
He has been nicknamed as DB and called so across the circles. He was born and brought up in Jaipur. He has an MA degree in Economics and MBA in his kitty. He has mapped the duration of over 35 years in the bureaucratic circles.

Successor of Nihal Chand Goel chief secretary of Rajasthan
IAS officer from 1983 batch, DB Gupta has succeeded Nihal Chand Goel. His tenure will last till November 2020.
Nihal Chand Goel is the Chief Secretary to have spent the shortest term of four months in the top bureaucratic position. The termination of his tenure is still a topic for discussion. If rumours were to be believed, Goel was about to be given a three month extension, but finally it was decided that DB will replace him. Goel was also given a farewell party yesterday.

The announcement of his appointment to the position was made later at night. The reason of delay is cited as the absence of CM Raje in the state capital. CM Raje was in Bundi yesterday and her travel plans got delayed due to unexpected weather conditions.
DB Gupta’s wife Veenu Gupta is a senior IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre holding the post of additional chief secretary, medical and health.
What remains to be seen is how well DB Gupta fares at his job. We wish him all the luck and good wishes on assuming the new position.
