Congress declares candidates name for 19 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan

After a period of discussion, Congress party has finally declared the names of 19 candidates out of 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan on Thursday late night, a week after Bhartiya Janta Party declared its first list of 16 candidates.  Congress release the list fielding Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav from Jodhpur and former BJP leader Jaswant Singh’s son Manvendra from Barmer.

According to the first list declared, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav will contest form Jodhpur Lok Sabha seat to challenge sitting PM and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Moreover, Manvendra Singh, son of veteran BJP leader Jaswant Singh will contest from Barmer Parliamentary seat. Singh, who joined Congress in last September, had contested against former chief minister Vasundhara Raje from Jhalawar and lost.

Further, the party has fielded former Union minister Jitendra Singh from Alwar, senior leaders Ramnarayan Meena from Kota, Savita Meena from Dausa, Jyoti Khandelwal from Jaipur, Namo Narayan Meena from Tonk-Sawai Madhopur and Jyoti Mirdha from Nagaur, among others.

The list of the candidates was released after Rahul Gandhi visited Rajasthan and interacted with party workers on Tuesday.

Rajasthan will go to polls in two phases. I the first phase in April, elections will be held on 13 seats. Whereas on May 6, the second phase the elections will be held on 12 seats. In 2014, BJP made a historic win by sweeping all 25 seats in Rajasthan.
