    Swacchta Abhiyan

The Swacchta wave has swept wide and long across the Indian boundaries. Rajasthan particularly has maintained itself at the edge of the Swacchta Abhiyan, initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister PM Modi. The desert state has successfully spread the word about Swacchta to all its citizens using innovative ideas and techniques. The state of Rajasthan has gained unbeatable results in the Swacchta Abhiyan and the citizens are a testimony to the same.

Babu Bai not happy with open defecation
Babu Bai (38) who hails from Toomdar village of Amod Gram was highly influence by the Swacchta Abhiyan and she took tremendous action towards ensuring that she has a hygienic living. Babu Bai was not supportive of the idea of going out for answering nature’s call. So, she thought of getting a toilet built inside her home.

Nevertheless, she didn’t find much affirmation to the same from other male family members including her husband and son. Afterall, men are usually indifferent to the privacy needs and fail to understand the menstrual nuances which women have to deal with.

Swacch Bharat Mission team comes to her rescue
However, good times were lying ahead of Babu Bai who got the assistance of District Swacch Bharat Mission team which visited the village a few days after. The Swacch Bharat team informed Babu Bai about the ill-effects of open defecation.

Babu Bai was informed about the ill-effects of open defecation on her natural well-being, family health and personal hygiene. This instigated and revitalised Babu Bai’s intention of building a toilet inside her home, as the GP Sarpanch and Secretary motivated her to do so. They told her that a toilet can be built inside her house.

Toilet in Babu Bai’s home-her prayers answered
Babu Bai was elated to hear that her dream could come true. Despite facing financial troubles, Babu Bai was adamant to build a toilet inside her house. Babu Bai decided to mortgage her jewellery for building a toilet. She realised that any material asset was cheap in front of personal hygiene. She enquired with the concerned parties and within a couple of days, Babu Bai managed to get Rs 4500 which was enough to buy construction material for toilet and a bathroom.

    Wave of Goodness spreads…
Babu Bai has now become an inspiration for many women of her locality. Now, other fellow residents are also following the footsteps of Babu Bai and are planning to get toilets built in their own homes. Well, this is how Swacchta Abhiyan is going strong at the root level! What a win for the Swacchta Abhiyan team!
