If the abandoned newborns get a home then nothing is better than that. The state of Rajasthan has brought a new initiative – Ashray Palna Yojna – to provide a home to these infants. The initiative came out as a result of the new born baby girls found in bushes, drains and dustbins. Many of these lives are killed by stray animals and many of them could not survive the harsh weather situations.
To stop the death of abandoned infants and provide them proper care and shelter, Rajasthan government launched a wonderful scheme called Ashray Palna Yojna. The Ashray Palna Yojna is designed with the logo “Phenko Mat, Humein Do” (Don’t dump, give them to us)
What is Ashray Palna Yojna
Under Ashray Palan Yojana, efforts are taken to save abandoned girl child. The scheme is about nursing place where the unwanted girls will be nurtured. Under this scheme, unique kind of cradles will be placed. The government has placed these cradles in 65 hospitals attached to government medical colleges, district hospitals and satellite hospitals of the state.
These cradles have been built with an automatic system of alarm. These alarms will ring only after two minutes of placing the baby in the cradle. It is made so to keep the identity of the person who places the baby in the cradle hidden. As the bell rings, hospital staff gets information about the placing of baby in the cradle.

Behind the Idea
This wonderful idea of giving shelter to abandoned infants came from ‘Cradle of Hope’. ‘Cradle of Hope’ is concept conceived by a local businessman Devendra Agarwal. For the implementation of Ashray Palna Yojna, Devendra Agarwal acts as an adviser to Rajasthan government.
Ashray Palna Yojna scheme has given a new opportunity to the baby girls who are left to die just after the birth. Till now 77 newborns have been saved under Ashray scheme. Rajasthan government’s decision of launching this scheme showcases the vision of better Rajasthan. Girls are decision-makers of the future growth and development of society as well as the nation. If they are not secured and healthy then the future of the nation is at stake. It is a remarkable scheme by the Vasundhara Raje government for a better Rajasthan.
