
It is less than two months to Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018. People have high expectations from these upcoming elections. All the communities from the state are seeking to get the ticket of the elections.
In this series, the transgender community also hopes for participation and representation in the forthcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan. Soon after the acceptance from Supreme Court as ‘Third Gender’, the community looks for more participation in the society. In fact, it has directed to consider them as Other Backward Class. A transgender activist shared that as we have been accepted by the Apex court so this community now need societal and government acceptance too. Being part of government and decision-making community help them to move ahead. Talking about Ganga Kumari, the first transgender police in Rajasthan, it is said that she was selected as a woman and not transgender. Well… this is a great achievement for the community.

Why do they want to tickets for elections?
It is usually seen that political parties take blessings of transgender ahead of elections. This time, the transgender is seeking more. They want political parties to offer them tickets. They wish to represent government from panchayat to assembly. This would be the easiest way to prove their mettle to the society. Rajasthan Assembly Polls 2018
As this is not the first time transgender desiring for ticket to contest, there were attempts made in the past also to enter politics. All the attempts were failed.
Rajasthan government’s efforts for transgender
In a big move to empower transgender community, Rajasthan government had given them reservation. In government housing schemes, multi-purpose identity cards and skill development programs for transgender, Rajasthan government announced 2 per cent reservation. The move is yet to be implemented.
